The Need to Sit at HIS Feet...

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:38-42

So, I had a moment in my car yesterday as I began to tackle the day's to do's... It was a moment of realization that I'm acting a bit like Martha and I really want to be Mary... I need to sit at HIS feet! I'm not really "anxious" about things, but I'm "busier than normal" with things....

Musical artists Shane & Shane wrote a song years ago titled, "I Miss You"... The song gives the imagery of trying to sustain oneself with fast food meals, when there is a feast to be had; a better portion with tastier flavor... I confess, I've been breaking out the paper plates lately and missing out on the meals that are served on fine china. I need to sit at HIS feet. You?

Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever... But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works. Psalm 73:25-26, 28
I decided to get a little "hair therapy" on Monday to recover my grays... Three hours later (I'd asked to have my hair styled straight to humor my kids), I was off and running. Some of you wondered what in the world I looked like with straight hair.... there you go. Even Titus was a little confused... ha ha....
Wednesday, Amy and I headed to Gulfport to pick up my dear friend, Kate who flew in from Virginia. She represented the International Justice Mission in a panel discussion at Tulane University following the screening of "Call + Response" rockumentary. Tulane's student body is hosting a human trafficking awareness week. We were blessed to be a part.
I was especially blessed to visit with some New Orleans friends Karla (above), Kim & Andrew Arthur, as well as make new friends...
The "rockumentary" was a feature length film that included musicians, actors, ambassadors, persons on the front lines of combatting modern day slavery... such as Justin Dillion (musician/writer & producer of film), Immanual Jal (musician liberated from being child soldier), Gary Haugen (President of IJM), Ashley Judd (actor), and several others....
The panel was composed of a variety of advocates... Human Rights, IJM, Fair Trade, Domestic Abuse Shelter, etc...
Kate, in particular, provided several practical challenges specific to college students:
Major in law, criminal justice or social work...
(One pertinent to people of all ages): Educate yourself and take action...

It was a wonderful evening. May we all be a people who seek the Living God of Justice and put our faith into action. If you would like to learn more, one fabulous resource is a 30 minute documentary titled, "At the End of Slavery". Visit www.ijm.org, order a screening kit and host a get together in your home or small group. For those in Hattiesburg, the TBC Oasis will be showing it during open hours there in the coffee shop. The Women on Mission will be screening it Tuesday evening, at 6:00 PM in WC 116. Come join us!

Please pray for some of the "busier than normal" things currently going on...

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water... My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me... Portions from Psalm 63

Thanks for sharing. Much Love, p
I thank God He never leaves me...He carries us, gives us rest, and brings us to calm waters to drink deeply from. Thank God for His ever faithfulness and grace. Oh how I need Him more and more each day.
